“Things teenage girls always wanted to know about gynecology”
Episode 1: Abnormal periods
Ladies, have you ever experienced abnormal menstrual bleeding? In simpler terms, have you ever had your period more than once a month or had an irregular cycle? In my adolescent years, many of my female friends and family (and myself!) had experienced an irregular cycle or abnormal bleeding at least once or twice in their lives. I think many of us girls can think of a moment in our lives when we were bleeding even though we were not supposed to be. When this happened, immediate panic ran through our bodies, with many of us asking the question: am I okay?
Then again, because this had happened to some of our girlfriends, we probably wondered if we should even be worried. Should I see a doctor, or do I ignore the bleeding because people tell me it could be normal? Experiencing abnormal bleeding as a teenage girl can be scary, and it is never fun having more than one period in a month or an irregular bleeding cycle. I can say that I definitely would have loved to know more about my body and what to look for in terms of abnormal bleeding and inconsistent periods. That knowledge would have certainly helped me and my friends sleep better at night, that is for sure!
